| Abstract | This work aims to analyze the policy of student ass istance and its materialization. To understand the student assistance, it was described the historical process by which the National Program of Student Assistance (PNAES) was designed. It was possible to find, by this research, that the PNAES is consequence of a l ng process of struggles of the social and student movements. This research aimed to answer th e question: “what was the impact of the Student Assistance in the student permanence at UTF PR – Câmpus Medianeira?” To answer this question, it was analyzed the Program implemen ted at the Campus Medianeira of the UTFPR, in order to keep the student registered in g raduation courses, reducing the evasion, enabling equal opportunities and contributing for t he improvement of the academic performance. The methodological way covered, const ituted of a research of bibliographical and documental nature, that showed suitable, consid ering that the study was performed by the observation of evasion indicators and the student p rmanence attended by the Program, being necessary a careful analysis to understand the proc esses involved. The results of the data analysis permitted, at the end, to understand the e ffects, by means of indicators, of how the public policies have influenced in the permanence, or not, of these students.
