| Abstract | Effect of feeding restriction on the productive performance of broilers. Overfeeding and sub- sequent problems of metabolic origin, are frequently caused by ill applied feeding programs. An ex- periment was conducted to assay the effect of quantitative feeding restriction (FR) (free access, 18, 16 an 14 hours of consumption) on the productive performance and carcass characteristic of broilers. FR was from 7 to 28 days of age (initiation phase) to 29 to 56 days of age. The birds had free access to feed, considering it as the ending phase. A completely random design was used with four treatments and three repetitions per treatment. FR increased mortality percentage by 3.33, decreased feed con- sumption (P 0.05) negatively the weekly weight gain only in the weeks 1, 3 and 5, feeding conversion and feeding efficiency were not affected. After the restriction, weekly weight gain, live weight, feed consumption feed conversion, were not statisti- cally different (P>0.050). Carcass yield, main cut parts, secondary cut parts and offal, were not statis- tically different (P>0.05). The economic index was higher in Treatment 1 than in other treatments. It is concluded that the severity of the restriction didn't affect mortality, productive variables, carcass yield, and yield in main and secondary cut parts obtained. |
