| Abstract | This paper traces the hegelian presentation of civil society in the Elements of Philosophy of Right, showing how the formation of freedom is defined in the antagonism between selfishness and solidarity. Thus, to understand freedom as a principle of moral , social and political life Hegel does not appeal to the principles of natural law from which it is reasonable to justify the need for the political community (as Hobbes, Rousseau and Locke, among others) nor a purely formal pure Reason´s principles (as Kant) but understands the freedom from a community and historical perspective of ethical life (Sittlichkeit). The text shows how the author thinks the concrete action of individuals with historical realism and critical spirit, as it considers the material conditions in which the individual acts, wich leads to institutions wich, as well as promote relations of solidarity, also defend individual rights and their egoism. Thus, civil society is a space for freedom of the particular development, but is marked by its limitation, by antagonism and the fragility of its institutions. 113 |
