| Abstract | The literature has pointed to a growing number of studies by high-performance sports with people with physical disabilities. In particular, wheelchair rugby has been a strong ally of people with physical disabilities not only to provide social inclusion, but also for their personal growth, and can be integrated into their professional life. The objective of the present study was to verify the associations between the perception of sports success, the level of performance, the functional classification and the training regime in Rugby athletes in wheelchairs of the 1st and 2nd national division. The study consists of a quantitative approach, of an applied nature generating practical knowledge, using a research with explanatory objectives, involving techniques of data collection, questionnaire, constituting all surveys necessary for the research. A questionnaire was applied that evaluates the perception of success of the rugby athlete in a wheelchair. It consists of twelve questions, where every three questions assess the scale at the individual, national, international and social levels, respectively. Each question is made up of the Likert scale, where it ranges from one to five, ranging from unimportant to very important. At the end were added the answers of each level, where the highest score is given as the main perception of athlete's sporting success. It was verified that body weight reported by athletes was significantly associated with all perceptive dimensions of sports success (SE individual, r = -0.434, national SE, r = -0.422, international SE, r = -0.375 and social, r = -0.445). Similarly, BMI was also significantly associated, but only with national SE and SE international dimensions (r = -0.450 and r = -0.513, respectively). Given all the evidence, a high correlation between the demographic and training indicators, such as body weight and BMI, is observed in a positive way. However, the relationship between age and the international SE and SE social results were negative. |
