| Abstract | Monography of Specialization Program of Post-Graduation in Mathematical Education Federal University of Santa Maria THE TEACHING OF STATISTIC IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A CRITICAL SENSE WITH STUDENTS OF A MIDDLE SCHOOL IN THE TOWN OF MONTENEGRO, RS Author: Daniel Vizzotto Supervisor: Dr. Ricardo Fajardo Date and Local of Defense: Santa Maria, February 04th 2011. In this study, it is developed the problem situation, theory and practice related to the construction of the students’ critical sense when learning Statistics, as to the curriculum of mathematical content as well as to problems of everyday life. The studying process began in the first six months, when the problem situation was posed and the necessary readings took place, such as Paulo Freire and Ole Skovsmose. The data collection (qualitative and quantitative) occurred in the last three months with the application of the Motivation Problems to a class on the sixth year of Middle School. The techniques applied in the reading, writing, critical interpretation and problem solving allowed the development of a mathematical reasoning. The conclusions show the class’ evolution. However, it is possible to extend the attained results to other learning situations, so that the critical sense may be a tool to solve curriculum problems and to the change of behavior in everyday life, as an alternative of living fully one’s citizenship and fulfilling the teacher’s as well as the students’ expectations. |
