| Abstract | The text presents the results of the research that aimed to answer in which way Sao Bento do Sul community, has become a reading institution. The work is based on the Cultural History approach considering authors such as Roger Chartier, Sandra Jatahy Pesavento, among others. As a source of the study institutional documents were analyzed as well as newspapers and oral statements. The analyzed printed sources show little visibility of the Society. However, the oral sources (such as those of the treasurer and librarian) revealed the tenacity of different director boards making efforts on the local community to keep the doors open for the future of this reading institution of Santa Catarina State North Plateau. |
