| Abstract | Background: The infection by cytomegalovirus can appear in asymptomatic form and remain latent within the organism; reason why serologic and Molecular Biology studies as it is the PCR are important auxiliary diagnosys in this type of infections, mainly in the places where the people make a blood donation. Material and Methods: Plasma samples were analyzed of voluntary donors, which apparently were healthy, according to their clinical history and the physical examination that was realised to them. In order to determine presence of specific IgG and IgM for CMV it was used the technique of ELISA as well as the PCR for the DNA viral determination. results: 215 samples were analyzed. 37,31% (80) were female cases of which, 97,5% were positive for IgG anti-CMV, 25% were it for IgM anti-CMV and 40% were PCR-positive. On the other hand, 62,79% (135) were males cases displaying a percentage of positivity to IgG and IgM antiCMV and PCR-positive of 82,96%, 19,26% and 15,38%, respectively. Conclusions: Our results show that a great percentage of blood donors is positive for IgG anti-CMV, nevertheless a small part of them displays an infection caused by CMV (as it is demonstrated in the positive values for IgM). On the other hand, there is a group of donors who display a PCR positive test for CMV, which represents a high risk for people who receive that globular package; reason why a strict quality control in the blood donation bank is required, to avoid that this type of infections can be developed in the receptor subjects, that |
