Abstract	Este e um estudo sobre as relacoes interetnicas nos grupos de populares na cidade de Porto Alegre, entre 1890 e 1909. A partir da analise dos processos criminais, a pesquisa busca explorar a relacao discriminatoria entre criminalidade e populacao estrangeira, bem como a persistencia do componente etnico da identidade social entre nacionais e imigrantes nos momentos de contato intergrupal. Isso significa tratar as relacoes interetnicas como um fenomeno social em permanente tensao entre sujeitos e grupos sociais. As consideracoes apontam para a necessidade de incorporar as diferentes perspectivas dos reus, ofendidos e testemunhas, que viviam e percebiam a realidade de diferentes coordenadas. Palavras-Chave: Grupos etnicos. Processo criminal. Criminalidade. Abstract: This study is about the inter-ethnic relations among working-class groups in the city of Porto Alegre, from 1890 to 1909. From the analyses of criminal lawsuits, this research aims at exploring the discriminatory relations regarding criminality and the foreign population, as well as the persistence of the ethnic component of the social identity among Brazilians and immigrants in the moments of intergroup contact. That means to treat the inter-ethnic like a social phenomenon in permanent tension between the subjects and social groups. Considerations point out the necessity to incorporate several perspectives from the defendants, victims and witnesses that used to live and understand the reality from different points of view.
