| Abstract | The American trypanosomiasis or Chagas disease is a disease that affects both humans and many mammals and is caused by a flagellate protozoan blood and tissues Trypanosomacruzi. This research explored the prevalence of Chagas disease in children under 5 born to mothers with positive serology for Chagas, in Sopachuy municipality and their communities during the months of February to May 2010, through two methods: Parasitological method (microhematocrit technique) for children under 6 months with samples of peripheral blood or umbilical cord blood, and serological method, (indirect hemagglutination (HAI)) in children aged 7 months to 5 years with serum samples obtained from peripheral blood. |
