| Abstract | Lettuces are hardwoods vegetables for human consumption and are produced by small and medium-sized rural producers, who in many cases do not have good quality water for irrigation. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of salicylic acid on the cultivar of crisp lettuce, cv. Vera under conditions of saline stress. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse at the UFERSA, Mossoró, RN, Brazil. A. A. Costa et al. in semi-hydroponic system using coconut fiber substrate. A completely randomized design with six treatments and three replications was used. The plants were fertirrigated with saline solution (3.5 dS m) and leaf application of salicylic acid (0; 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 mM), in addition to a control treatment (Solution). The following variables were evaluated: stem diameter, number of leaves, leaf area, fresh mass and total dry mass. It is possible to conclude that: The use of saline water in the preparation of the nutrient solution reduced all variables analyzed. The salicylic acid has a potential to be used as a salt stressing agent in the cultivation of crisp lettuce. KEYWORD: Lactuca sativa, saline stress, mineral nutrition |
