| Abstract | Nowadays coffee producers are opening new frontiers where the climate was considered inapt for coffee cultivation. With technology progress, that is possible with irrigation and one could still take advantage of accomplishing chemigation. The presence of chemical products in the irrigation water generally elevates the electric conductivity solution which above a certain value, becomes harmful to the culture. The northeast region of Brazil is considered arid and problems with salinity certainly will come II Simpósio de Pesquisa dos Cafés do Brasil 223 with time. Up to date, very little knowledge is available regarding the resistance of coffee to salinity. With the objective of studying the salinity effects of the irrigation water in the coffee seedings production, an experiment was carried out in protected environment using a completely randomized blocks design with 5 treatments and 5 replications, where irrigation water was evaluated with concentrations of 0,0; 0,6; 0,9; 1,2 and 1,5 dS/m. Evaluations were made on the salinity effects in the parameters of relative water content of the leaves (TRA) and the dry weight of the leaves of coffee seedings at 106, 136 and 197 days of treatment. It was concluded that until the height of 230,0 mm distributed in 136 days without salt lixiviation, coffee seedings did not present damages on the relative water content of the leaves (TRA) and also on leaves dry weight. Increasing approximately 50% the value of the amount of water applied and distributed along the 197 days caused a decrease on the values of TRA. |
