| Abstract | In the agrarian region of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (TMAD), the production of flowers appears as an agricultural activity in frank development whose vector growth seats in the penetration of markets. Despite adverse climatic factors, the national and communitarian competition, the strong business power of the customers, the increase of the purchase power of the deep consumer and the availability of communitarian funds appear as chances that the young agriculturists do not want to waste. In the sequence of such development, the production of flowers in TMAD has come to magnify, with 1997 exception. However such evolution is still on this side of the expectations of the floriculturists because effective sales represent, significantly, 50% of previsional sales. To prevent the ominous effect of the climate, the TMAD floriculture is developed in greenhouses and seats, essentially, in the monoculture of carnation. Its production is sold, to a large extent, the Spanish companies of the Galiza who are, simultaneously, customers and suppliers of the floriculturists. Beyond the market of the European Union, the floriculturists also act in the national and regional markets making use of the intensive, selective and exclusive distribution consonant the markets in which they act. Although with some problems, the TMAD floriculture presents an investment dynamics that allows to perspective the continuation of its development, appearing the innovation, the development of the market, the intent growth and the development of the product as capable alternative strategies to shape the future of the TMAD flower production. 1o Congresso de Estudos Rurais Território, Agricultura e Desenvolvimento |
