| Abstract | The different ways of exposing the coffee plant at sunlight influence the fruit growth and development, as well as their production and final quality. Knowledge of the fruit growth curves allows a better culture management, as well as to identify times of higher demand for nutrients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth curves of coffee fruit considering three planting alignments and the different faces of plant (North/South) in each alignment. The data set corresponds to the results of an experiment conducted in the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, UNESP, Jaboticabal-SP, with the cultivar Obatã IAC 1669-20, which belongs to the species Coffea Arabica (CUNHA; VOLPE, 2011). We analysed the data by using nonlinear Gompertz and Logistic models considering auto correlated errors structure AR(1) and heteroscedasticity of variances, when necessary. We estimated the parameters by "gnls"function from the statistical software R, which uses the least squares method and the GaussNewton algorithm for convergence. We compared the fit of the models by using the following evaluators: Adjusted Coefficient of Determination (R2 a); Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) and Battes and Watts curvature. Fruits from different faces exposed to sunlight showed different growth pattern in the three studied alignments, regarding the maximum weight and maturity index. The nonlinear models described fairly the coffee fruit growth whereas the Gompertz model fits better. |
