| Abstract | The article discusses some of the results of the baseline study (2012 and 2013) on the state of food security in 41 rural and peri-urban areas of six municipalities in Nicaragua. Measurement was based on the methodology proposed by FAO (2007 and 2011) in order to determine the level of energy sufficiency and of dietary diversity. The results helped to measure the impact of a project that operated for two years in the referred areas. A positive situation of food security standards was found, while at the same time, the study revealed the need to improve the variety of the diet.
