| Abstract | This article aims to investigate the construction of meanings in the literary discourse of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth in the homonymous tragedy of William Shakespeare. It highlights the contributions of the analysis to the teaching/learning of the English Language. In doing so, we adopt the sociosemiotic perspective of language proposed by Halliday and Matthiessen (2004), especially the analysis of the evaluative resources (MARTIN and WHITE, 2005), in interface with Cosson's (2014) literary literacy proposal. The corpus consists of evaluation sections found in the translation of Manuel Bandeira (1989). The purpose of the study is to provide English language learners with a teaching/learning process focused not only on the analysis of linguistic materiality, but also on the possible literary manifestations of the language. The results indicate that such an approach can lead the student to a literary and linguistic literacy and, therefore, to a broader literacy. |
