EnglishThis article utilizes an interdisciplinary approach that merges semantic and gender studies to examine how gender is represented in a corpus that consists of four Latin American poems: Delmira Agustini’s “El intruso” and “Mis amores” and Pablo Neruda’s “Poema XIX” and “Soneto I”. This essay is divided into two major parts. The first, analyses physical descriptions (relating to the body) and characteristic descriptions (relating to the individual personality) to examine how gender is represented in both categories. The second part of the work analyses how both agent and patient semantic roles are constructed through the narration of sexual encounters. Both analyses conclude that the feminine subject is inextricably tied to the patient role and the masculine subject is tied to the agent role. |
