| Abstract | Public transportation in Mexico is a problem associated with urban mobility, environmental conservation, quality of life, security and ways of living and moving in the city. In Culiacan, Sinaloa, this condition is particularly serious due to a lack of planning, low efficiency, low security and poor quality of the service. This article is an integral recapitulation of the report “Prevencion y atencion a practicas cotidianas en transporte colectivo: hacia una movilidad urbana sostenible y segura” (Prevention and Attention to Everyday Practices in Collective Transportation: Towards a Sustainable and Safe Urban Mobility). This report was requested by the Culiacan City Council with the aim of making a diagnosis on the use and operation of public transportation in Culiacan. We discuss some of the categories derived from the thematic content analysis of official documents and newspapers in Culiacan. This report is also based on quasi-ethnographic fieldwork in public transportation routes/services. The categories are: 1) service, cost and complaints; 2) security and risks in public transportation; 3) students and public transportation. |
