| Abstract | In the last two decades of the 19 century many telepathic performances took place in Buenos Aires. That amazing power was shown in some theaters by foreign magicians, but also in city hospitals under the watchful eyes of physicians, or in private rooms where educated men of the city gathered. In addition, different local voices reported or tried to explain theoretically the thought transmission. Spiritualists, intellectuals, physicians and writers, with their own language and purposes, provided versions about the nature of telepathy. The aim of this paper is to analyze the way in which telepathy was handled in Buenos Aires’ scientific culture. |
