| Abstract | The language errors frequently occur in progress of the process of communication and interaction between people. That condition can be seen at the time when learning process take place or activity that happen in surronding of school. This research aim to describe tha kinds of deviations of language politness and the deviation cause. The data source of this research is class XI students of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Surakarta and Indonesian Language Teachers when interaction in teaching and learning activity of Indonesian language discussion. The type of this study is descriptive qualitative. The collecting data of the study used observation, interview, and documentation. The analysis of the data used reduction of the data, presentation of the data, so the researcher drawn the conclusions and verification. The result of this study shows that (1) discussion activities there are deviations of the principle of politeness, (2) The cause of the principle of politeness that accusing the opponent of speech, speaking not in accordance with context, not giving sympathy, protective to opinion, the emotional sense of the speaker, the direct criticism with harsh words, and bullying |
