| Abstract | The conservation of species of natural bio-regulators is rather a preventive strategy that promotes the regulation of the group of phytofagous and phytopathogenic populations present in the agro-ecosystem. Exactly this it is the strategy that more possibilities have in the handling of pest in the sustainable agriculture. In two areas with continuous utilization, experimental and witness, sowed of the variety of black tobacco ‘Sancti Spíritus 96 ‘ on brown Soil with carbonates in Cabaiguán Tobacco Experimental Station, the effect of the use of two species of plants was proven as living barriers in the borders of the tobacco field, these were crotalaria cv Nett (Crotalaria juncea L.) and corn (Zea mais L.) Timing frequency was every fifteen days for both areas. For the calculation of the natural enemies’ activity degree the scale applied was that proposed by Armas et al. (2004). The calculation of the pest intensity index (Heliothis virescens F.) was made according to the methodology mentioned by Hernández (2004). The behaviours of the different populations of insects in the agro-ecosystem were also analyzed according to their trophy niches. The activity of the natural enemies reached denominations of high in the experimental area while for the witness area activity of the same ones was not observed or it was very low during the study. The intensity index calculated for H.virescens was of 5,21 % for the experimental area being superior in the witness area where it reached 12,26 %. The present study seeks to demonstrate the possibility of the use of living barriers for control of the main tobacco pests by means of the stimulation of the natural biological control in areas dedicated to the cultivation. |
