| Abstract | Meteorological conditions are a key factor on wildfire dynamics; there is, therefore, a need to determine their influence on wildfires. In the Valencian Region, three synoptic situations have been found to be closely related to forest fires. These are: 1) sea breeze cycle combined with Iberian thermal low; 2) synoptic westerlies; and 3) combined cycle, namely diurnal breeze cycle combining the nocturnal return flow with synoptic westerlies at middle and upper levels. Selected meteorological events representing those three types have been simulated with a mesoscale numerical model (RAMS) to study wind regimes in each situation at high spatial resolution. A representative wind cartography has been developed showing the “typical” daily wind regimes at the three synoptic situations related to forest fires. These data have been incorporated into a GIS, |
