EnglishThe relations between catholic nationalism, culture and political power have been the subject of intense debate in Argentina in the last decades. From the thirties, an important part of the specialized literature has coincided in pointing out the increasing commitment of the Catholic Church and the nationalists to the political life of the country as well as their role in it. Although in the line of such studies, the development of intellectual elites has been examined from the Catholic Culture Courses and the publication of Criterio, the approach to the group of artists formed around Convivio has been visibly lower despite the persistent recognition of some of its members. Even less has been the interest in the interpretative delimitation, definition and actualization of its aesthetics. The objective of this paper is to contribute to the reconstruction of the initial aesthetic artistic practices of this group ―active between 1927 and 1947― composed by artists, poets, architects, philosophers and historians. To that effect, from the semiotic approach to images and writings in Number, a monthly publication in which some participants of Convivio collaborated, it is explored its role as a space for initial delineation of an aesthetic artistic program undertaken by the argentine catholicism. The preliminary conclusions focus, in this program, on a body of primarily political passions at play in the dialectic between processes of radical change of culture and reaction processes under the hypersign of modernization, the recovery of «the national being» and identity associated to hispanic catholicism. |
