| Abstract | Shade-Coffee plantations have proved beneficial for birds, especially when they have structural and floristic diversity. This study determined the composition of birds in six coffee plantations in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, in which 12 vegetation variables were measured in order to characterize and determine their relationship with the avifauna. With only 18 hours of sampling 94 species of birds were registered in the six coffee plantations, which may be serving as habitat for the species found. The composition of birds was only different in one of the six plantations and the percentage of canopy cover was the variable that best explained the changes in the composition of birds in this plantation. The average height of vegetation, the average height of coffee and the percentage coffee berry borer were variables that explained changes in the composition of birds in a parsimonious way. |
