| Abstract | Objectives: 1To optimize aerobic biological degradation of organic matter in effluent from wine industry 2To obtain from laboratory scale reactors fundamental information about designing aerobic biological reactors Methodology of work: 1Study of the kinetics, to determine the speed to which microorganisms degrade organic matter, evaluating the variation of the substrate concentration in the liquid with respect to time. 2Matter balances in continuous reactors, evaluating the production of sludges and oxygen consumption 3Determination of the characteristics of sludges decantation Discontinuous tests in a laboratory scale were made, in order to observe the effluent capacity of biodegradation and to determine the times of residence for continuous tests. After that, tests in continuous fermentation reactors were made, obtaining the kinetic parameters necessary for designing the activated sludge units in a real scale. |
