| Abstract | The goal of the article is to show that Internet positively influences national identity. According to the author this identity leans on community spirit and sense of being different from others. Today, in globalizing world, national identity is not disappearing, and Internet is not a tool that contributes to it. On the contrary, Internet strengthens national identity and is a tool that can be used to build it. Author shows four most important aspects of building national identity on the Internet. Firstly, author concentrates on nationalism on the Internet. This nationalism is called new nationalism and it is becoming more and more popular and has different faces. Secondly, author shows process which he calls nations building on the Internet. This process proceeds on various levels. For example, people can create different national virtual communities. This strongly combines with third aspect which is building national identity in immigrant communities. Internet allows them to maintain contact with homeland. Finally, author writes about national cultures which are spreading on the Internet what clearly strengthens national identity. |
