| Abstract | This paper proposes a feasible alternative for replacing the privative software Matlab by Octave, which is a homologous mathematical assistant distributed under GPL license. In the first, It is significant the so high number of features it offers, and the levels of integration, extensibility and ease for using features that it has is highlighted, which constitutes a determining factor as the most widely used numerical assistant software all over the world. Octave is a mathematical assistant with similar functionalities as the ones found in Matlab and it also has full compatibility with that privative software; however, due to its limited interactivity and the lack of a graphical interface, it often constitutes the last option for students and professionals. In this context, the paper shows the capabilities of a new work environment which, having Octave as its groundwork expands its potentials through its interaction with other mathematical assistants.
