| Abstract | Endosporulation is the most efficient resistance strategy for a bacterial cell. Aerobic endospore forming Bacteria (AEFB) are isolated form diverse environments and it is believed that they play a major role in the ecology. AEFB are distributed among more than 45 families and 420 genera in Firmicutes phylum, which allocates Gram positive Bacteria with low G+C content and a very thick cell wall. Despite the relevance in environmental ecology, medical importance and technological potential, the AEFB are poorly characterized. Most studies about these microrganisms is based on model species such as Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus. These results are extrapolated to other AEFB lineages, and not always reflect the diversity of the group. The strains analyzed in this work are deposited at the AEFB Collection (CBafes) from University of Brasilia. CBafes comprises 312 wild lineages assigned as SDF0001-SDF0312, maintained at room temperature as dry spores. In this work, 16S rDNA consensus sequences were used to establish SDF lineages phylogeny. A molecular signature in the 16S rDNA sequence for psicrotolerance and/or thermotolerance was assessed, and the results were correlated to those obtained from growing lineages in different temperatures. The plasmid profile of selected lineages was also assessed in this work.
