| Abstract | El siguiente estudio examina que factores determinan la decision de las empresas chilenas a capacitar. A traves de un analisis econometrico utilizando la base de datos ENCLA 2011, se analizan los determinantes de la decision de las firmas, estudiando tanto la probabilidad de capacitar como tambien la magnitud de trabajadores capacitados. Si bien los modelos obtenidos manifiestan que se requieren importantes mejoras a nivel de estimacion, los resultados acerca de las variables significativas permiten realizar algunas conclusiones relevantes. El tamano de la empresa, la existencia de sindicato, la remuneracion per capita y la existencia de incentivos son significativas, aun que no fuertemente, determinantes de la decision de capacitar. Basado en esto, como tambien en la literatura relevante para Chile, se plantean ciertas recomendaciones de politicas publicas, con un foco en trabajadores vulnerables y no calificados, de manera que Chile avance en su desarrollo como tambien reduzca su aguda desigualdad. The following study examines what factors determine firms’ decisions to train in Chile. By means of an econometric analysis, using the database of ENCLA 2011, the determinants of firms’ training decisions are analyzed, both as to the probability of providing training as well as to how many workers to train. Even though the models obtained show that much work needs to be done to improve estimates, the results obtained about the significant variables allow us to state some relevant conclusions. Variables such as the size of the enterprise, the existence of a labor union, wages and the existence of incentives are significant, albeit not strong, determinants of training decisions. Based on this, as well as the relevant literature in Chile, policy recommendations are made, especially concerning unskilled, vulnerable workers, in order for Chile to speed up its development as well as to reduce its acute inequality.
