| Abstract | The objective of this study was to determine the levels of inbreeding and genetic diversity in the bovine population of the Charolais race registered in the Charolais Association of Morona Santiago ACHMS. For the estimation of consanguinity coefficients of the population, a database of 1518 Charolais records was used, which after the debugging and complementation was obtained 1942 individuals evaluated. The pedigree analysis was done with the Contribution, Inbreeding(F) Coancestry CFC program. The number of consanguineous animals was 47. The average of the inbreeding coefficients of the whole population was 0.00086 percent with a maximum level of 0.25 and a minimum of 1.52 multiplied by 10-5. The average consanguinity of consanguineous animals was 0.035 percent. The number of founding and non-founding individuals was 869 and 1073, respectively. While the average of equivalent generations was 1.32. Finally, it can be mentioned that the ACHMS can initiate a program of genetic improvement since the population had low levels of consanguinity, that is, 97.57 percent is not consanguineous, this value is higher than that obtained by Mc Parland et al. 2007 which was 44.5 percent. This difference was possibly due to the fact that the Charolais population of the ACHMS evaluated is relatively new 2009 in relation to the contrasted one that analyzed the pedigries since 1960. |
