| Abstract | Salinity is a major factor that compromises the photosynthetic activity of plants by reducing the concentration of chlorophylls and carotenoids, and nitrogen fertilization can be considered a technique capable of reducing these effects. In this context, the influence of the increase of nitrogen doses on the photosynthetic pigments of Crioula guava seedlings irrigated with waters of different salinities was studied. The experiment was developed in a greenhouse of the CCTA UFCG with randomized block design, in a 5 x 4 factorial scheme, corresponding to five levels of electrical conductivity of the irrigation water (ECw): 0.3; 1.1; 1.9; 2.7 and 3.5 dS m and four doses of nitrogen (N): 70; 100; 130 and 160% of the recommended dose for guava seedlings, with three replicates, using two useful plants per experimental unit. Irrigation with ECw above 0.3 dS m for 190 days after emergence decreases chlorophyll content, while carotenoids are not affected by ECw increase up to 3.5 dS m. Nitrogen fertilization, at doses of 100 (773 mg of N dm) and 130% of N (1004,9 mg of N dm) mitigates the effect of increased salinity of irrigation water on the Chlorophyll a / chlorophyll b ratio up to CEa of 1.9 dS m. Nitrogen doses, isolated, does not promote changes in the photosynthetic pigment contents of guava seedlings of the Crioula genotype. |
