| Abstract | This article intends to contribute to an interlocution between the afro-Brazilian religions leadership in Rio de Janeiro city and the local environmental authorities, by increasing cooperative environmental education actions that lead to both: un-build those religions marginalization process and preserve the cultural worth aggregated to them. To achieve that objective, it must be shown that the outbreak of an environmental ethics among afro-Brazilian religions followers integrates those religions to a social process in which actions aiming environmental preservation are performed by several engaged actors. By recognizing it, environmental education actions driven at those religions’ rituals, frequently considered as harmful to nature, may be strongly facilitated. The article concludes with the assertion that such actions must be taken in a coordinated way, within a process involving the practitioners and religious leadership, non-governmental organizations, educational institutions and public environmental agencies. |
