| Abstract | 10.12957/geouerj.2016.14606 One possibility for observing the development of urban space can be made from changes in various places of a city. In this article, we chose to examine these changes, both in space and history, from one of the buildings and their surroundings (the current Paco Imperial and Praca XV), whose forms and functions are transformed over time, marking time importance to the history of Rio de Janeiro and Brazil as a whole. These changes can include the place and time variables in order to achieve a critical discussion of the production of “carioca” urban space in general, adopting social participation as extremely important, as a movement that both reflects and influences in this production, allowing the various urban functions, it sued, if they materialize in urban form that change over time. |
