| Abstract | The conservation of species, climate change and the e ects of man on nature are topics of increasing concern to society in general. In order to obtain results in this eld it is necessary to understand, to study and to predict the evolution of species that form an ecosystem. Using the language of mathematics is possible to design models to describe and to understand part of the reality of ecosystems. By increasing the approximation of the models to reality these stop being simple models. The aim of this work focuses on de ning a new formal framework based on Membrane Computing for ecosystem modelling, as an alternative to the classical models. The modelling of ecosystems by means of the so called Psystems have great potential and a parallelism that allows to work with a lot of information. So far the classical models do not have this potential to study great quantity of species that they live in the ecosystem and the interactions that exist among them and the environment. In this report there is de ned a new variant of P-systems, due to the fact that among the di erent types of systems that exist nowadays there are none that contains all the characteristics necessary for modelling the ecosystems.4 The new semantics de ned is applied to study three di erent cases with very satisfactory results. The rst case models a signi cant ecosystem and social and cultural interest, such as the Bearded Vulture in the area of the Catalan Pyrenees. This ecosystem has been possible to validate it as it had all the necessary information, obtaining good results. In the other two case of study the weather and the terrain are introduced into the model to design, characteristics that a ect the dynamics of populations but cannot be introduced into the classical models. One of the ecosystem models an invasive species, zebra mussels in the reservoir of Ribarroja that has many problems in the absence of predatory species in the area. The last ecosystem is that of the Pyrenean Chamois in the Parc Nacional d'Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici in the Catalan Pyrenees, this species has su ered in the last years an epidemic called Pestivirus that has caused an important decrease of the population. In the last two ecosystems still not available all the necessary information, therefore still it has not been possible to validate the models designed. Psystems are computational models, therefore it is possible to design a software that simulates them, so that the models who are designed can be in use for the experts in ecology for applying them to the ecosystems. |
