| Abstract | This essay explores a group of coaching tools that may imbue the learning process of Public Accounting students at the higher education level. The first part addresses some current definitions that revolve around a millenary debate: man s personal fulfillment and the achievement of his full potential. Coaching offers a unique and original toolbox with different viewpoints and theories ranging from maieutic 2 to metaphor use, passing along oriental disciplines such as feng shui. The second part offers a context for Public Accounting teaching in Colombia at the higher education level and the influence of international accounting standards. The main argument states that the skills globalization brought about by the advancement of communication and information technologies demands students to engage in a continuous and flexible learning process that must allow Colombian public accountants to access the job market in an ever-changing world. At the end, coaching tools such as neuro-linguistic programming, unlearning and 360-degree assessment are applied to Public Accounting teaching and learning. The essay concludes that these tools can positively permeate some of public accountants responsibilities such as precise and effective presentation of financial information to internal and external clients, and can also work as a mentor (coach) in continuous improvement of the accountant s collaborators and work colleagues, as well as in their family and personal lives. |
