RESUMEN EN INGLES Objectives Wheezing during the first year of life is a major cause of morbidity. This work was carried out to evaluate a population of infants and observe the behaviour of the different wheezing phenotypes (remittent, persistent and incident wheezing) and the associated risk factors. Material and Methods 867 children who had previously participated in the International Study of Wheezing in Infants in the first year of life, were assessed by telephone questionnaire in the third year of life. Results The different patterns of wheezing were associated with different risk factors, although some factors were associated with more than one phenotype. Factors associated with the presence of wheezing were: male sex, maternal smoking, family history of asthma, day care attendance in the first year of life, molds at home, colds in the first three months of life and having at least one sibling. |
