| Abstract | The focus of this thesis is to investigate the relevance the patient/doctor bond has in keeping up with the treatment for the prevention of cervical cancer, owing to the fact that the information the health professional gives the patient is considered the main element of communication during the sessions. It is a study of a qualitative nature, exploratory and descriptive from the point of view of women diagnosed with HPV, high grade SIL between the ages of 21 and 49, with whom thorough semi-structured interviews were conducted. Amongst the specific objectives were the exploration of the significance this patient/doctor bond had for these women during their treatment as well as recognizing the psychological resources used to respond to their state of illness. It was found that, for these women, the comprehension of the information given holds preference in their lives and in how they respond to their situation. The study delved into shame, as it is a factor linked to their sexual activity and therefore causes them to feel guilt and think they are solely responsible for the diagnostic results. It was noted that the diagnosis of high grade SIL HPV affects the life of the couple and causes modifications to the sexual activity in general of those afflicted. It is also present in the working and social environments of these women's lives in different ways, depending on sociocultural, socioeconomic and personal variables. |
