Abstract	The work carried out begins by making a general reference to the history of quality systems as support tools for business management in order to increase productivity, ensure environmental protection promises and improvements in worker health and safety conditions. Within this concept, the focus is mainly on international occupational health and safety systems such as the OHSAS 18001 and the Directives relating to safety management systems and health in the workplace from International Labor office (ILO), in order to outline the Ecuador Model health and safety system, which has been recommended by way of legal mandate in the Andean Work Instrument to be applied in Ecuador and other countries forming part of the Andean Pact. This situation generates the necessity for the Ecuador Model from its conceptual base to be compared to and compatible with international occupational health and safety management systems which go hand in hand with the fundamental concept of management systems whose main objective is to safeguard the health and safety of workers, by reducing incidents, accidents, injuries and general losses. The similarities and differences that could exist between the Ecuador Model system and international systems such as OHSAS 18001 and international guidelines given by the ILO for management Systems have been evaluated, which arise from the results of a previous analysis carried out in which 27 health and safety management systems were compared also applied in the same number of countries in order to obtain the principal elements that define a management system.
