| Abstract | The increasing interest of peasants and customers for food from organic production systems has stimulated researchers to find new supplies to attend the nutritional requirements of crops. Therefore the utilization of local sources of organic waste is a feasible strategy in economical and logistical terms. In Pelotas, RS, the canning peaches industry and artisanal wines production by peasants have a considerable amount of wastes with potential for transformation into organic fertilizer with high biological value and nutrition through the vermicomposting. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chemical peeling residues of peach, grape rachis and grape marc and boiler ash on the biology and reproduction of earthworms. By the results we verified that crude peach residue requires a previous treatment before use as earthworms food, either through composting or mixing with other materials. The use of grape rachis such as physical conditioner to grape marc showed a tendency to improve the development and reproduction of earthworms as compared to the use of grape marc without the grape rachis. The development of earthworms was not affected by the ash addition to cow dung, but there was a clear trend of reduction in cocoon production increasing doses of ash. |
