| Abstract | This paper discusses the design and use of a web-based application created to facilitate learning from experience. The application was designed as a system to manage disagreeement among distributed participants. First, the application is described relative to the assumptions about dialectical argumentation that inform its design. Second, an example of its use is discussed to explore the complexities of supporting the collaborative production of differences of opinion. It was found that ad hoc modes of articulation shaped the discourse as much or more than the designed interaction protocol. An explanation of this finding is presented and implications for design are discussed. |
