| Abstract | This article discusses the complexity that family businesses have with succession, that is, the transmission to the next generation. The objective of this study is to analyze the succession of family businesses in order to increase the chances of success through the combined application of the succession model of Belausteguigoitia which identifies five stages, diagnosis, planning, training, transfer and culmination, and the model of the three circles of Tagiuri where it shows the interrelation of the three roles that participate in the familiar businesses, that are: family, proprietors and employees. This research work has a qualitative approach and the case study method in 3 family organizations; phenomenology and document analysis was used applying the techniques of open interview and observation to the owners of family businesses and a family business consultant for information triangulation purposes. The information obtained and analyzed allows us to conclude that by combining the two studied models the chances of successful succession are increased, and that different aspects are dealt with in a much more widely way, that otherwise are not covered in individual models. |
