| Abstract | Recognizing that the scientific research directed to the teaching of television news in Brazil is still scarce before the social value of TV news programs in Brazilian context, this study provides the first stage of a project with didactic purposes, from the perspective of language, that aims to reveal the grammar that governs the construction of the TV newscast. Guided by the theoretical and methodological approach of semiotics, we identify the television news as a text and propose a description of the relations settled between its constituent units as a grammar, defining the report as our primary object of analysis. We created in this work an inventory of the functions of the report s most characteristic constituent units (especially reporter‟s audio recording and appearance at scene and on screen interviews), from how they articulate to conceive a whole meaning, the “text-report”. For this, we analyzed a sample of 25 reports displayed by the Brazilian number one in audience night news, Jornal Nacional, showed by Rede Globo. From the analyzed material, we identified recurring functions established by the units of the report and presented how they relate to the organization of a whole meaning as your grammar. Through this proposition – an essential step in developing a grammar of the television news, we intend to help teachers and students in the teaching of TV news, providing a conceptual contribution based not on rules to imitate, but on an invariant system which underlies the process of the “text-report” elaboration in all its distinct manifestations. |
