| Abstract | The e-mentoring construct is still little explored in Brazil, especially in distance education. The purpose of this article is to investigate how does the e-mentoring relationship between tutor and student (mentor-mentee) postgraduate in business administration in the distance education. The collection of data involved a written questionnaire, interviews with teacher and student, and a non-participant observation. It was analyzed by using the categorical content analysis. Results indicated that the tutor can provide for students a psychosocial and career support in a short time of relationship, in disagreement with Kram (1985). Moreover, the career functions were more evident in this e-mentoring relationship than the psychosocial functions. The sympathy and charisma of the guardian are considered as a factor in choosing a mentor. The article contributed to the understanding and to the expansion of e-mentoring and EAD issues. Our study also suggests that the virtual mentoring improves the quality of relationships between tutor and student. |
