Abstract	SUMMARY Authors examined 378 children be-longing to a primary school in the Cap-ital of Sao Paulo in order to knowwhether the prevalence of dental cariesis higher in whites than in non-whites.After statistical analysis, using Mann-Whitney non-parametric "U" test, theyconclude that white children 8, 11 and 12years old present a higher prevalence ofcaries, at the 5% level of significance.
