| Abstract | The main objective of this study is to analyze the social policies of a focused nature, in particular the Programa Bolsa Família in the State of Rio Grande do Norte. The choice of this state of the federation is due to changes in the Brazilian economy in the 1990s, when the process of productive restructuring intensified, aggravating the social situation of a large part of the population. From a bibliographical and documentary survey and secondary source data, the importance of the program was verified both in the Metropolitan Region of Natal and in the interior. There was also an improvement in the monthly per capita income and a decrease in the number of people living in extreme poverty and poor, which led to a reduction in income concentration and an increase in the state average HDI, although this remained below the national average. |
