| Abstract | Polyelectrolyte multilayer films consist of an alternate superposition of polyelectrolytes of opposite charges which are assembled by electrostatic interaction to form films with thicknesses ranging from a few molecular lengths to several tens of μm. These materials are currently of great interest because of their potential uses for the design of photodiodes, selective membranes or biocompatible coatings. In this communication, we present a study of the behavior of the complex shear modulus of cross-linked and uncross-linked polyelectrolyte multilayer films, made up by hyaluronic acid and poly-L-lysine. The measurements were carried out using a piezorheology device, we have recently developed and which enables us to characterize the mechanical response of a thin sample (~10μm) over a broad frequency range by applying very weak strains. This work shows that piezorheology is well suited to the study of lamellar systems of biological interest. |
