| Abstract | Introduction: The colon abouchement ostomies or abroad is a practice that has served as a tool for solving surgeons in relatively simple clinical situations that placed at serious risk the lives of patients. Objective: To describe the frequency, indications and complications of colostomies performed for patients over 14 years Methodology: This study is descriptive. Includes 29 patients older than 14 years treated at the Surgery Department of Tacna Hipolito Unanue Hospital during the years 2006-2011 Results: During the years 2006 to 2011 were performed colostomies 33 patients older than 14 years, representing an average of 5.5 per year colostomies. The main characteristics of the patients were male (79.3%) and aged 21-40 years (37.9%). The most common indication for colostomy were intestinal obstruction (44.8%), followed by colonic perforation (31.0%) and anastomotic dehiscence (10.3%). The most common type of colostomy was temporary colostomy (93.1%), and the technique used was that of Hartman (72.4%). The most common postoperative complications were: colostomy necrosis (10.8%) and intra abdominal absc ess (6.9%). Conclusion: The average was 5.5 colostomies colostomies performed annually. The main indication was due to intestinal obstruction. Postoperative complications represent 17.2% . |
