| Abstract | The matter of solid waste reduction or even none of its generation is nowadays one of the main challenges for public or private sectors of providing goods and services. Since Solid Waste National Policy (Law N 12.305, August 2, 2010) publication, this challenge turns an urgent demand once target of reduction – to minimize the amount of solid waste disposed – it was requested for all sectors. The old idea related to the waste disposal far away from the population, taking the solid waste from the generation centers developed to the adequate treatment or final disposal during the last years. However, once treatment technologies are sometimes limited and expensive and sites for the adequate disposal have a useful life and turn potential focus of environmental contamination, waste reduction is receiving more attention as the real solution and no more only the adequate waste management. In this context, ecoefficiency appears as a useful tool to reach this challenge, identifying the economic and environmental aspects related to solid waste generation. |
