Abstract	The study aimed at analyzing the changes that were a result of scientific and technological progress and the flow of information available on demand for librarians reconfiguration of knowledge and skills. It identified continuing education as a strategy that favors updating and skills acquisition, such as competence in information. The main goal of this study was the identification of how the knowledge acquired by information professionals through continuing education activities are applied in their activities promoting the development of competence in information based on the user's need. The research was descriptive and it was developed by studying and comparing multiple cases. The research covered the Public Library of the State of Bahia (Institution 1) Biomedical Sciences Library and Eurydice Pires de Sant'Anna Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) (Institution 2), both of public nature and located in the city of Salvador, BA. It compared the development of continuing education activities in both spaces. The instruments of data collection were semi-structured questionnaires and interviews, the approach was qualitative and quantitative. The results showed that the two institutions promoted continuing education activities. However, the institution 2 offered more financial resources for the participation of librarians in events. It also found that librarians mostly preferred continuing education and developed actions for the development of competence in information by users, but when comparing the development of more detailed actions of the Information Competence in the two institutions the development of actions was less satisfactory.
