| Abstract | Materials processing is a practice recommended by the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency and applies to all who need to reprocess materials and utensils used in care, as it happens with estheticians. This study aimed to analyze the processing of biohazard materials in aesthetic establishments located in a city in the south of Santa Catarina. The research carried out was data collection, with a quantitative and transversal approach. Four establishments located in the urban region were sampled with the characteristic of offering aesthetic treatments capable of using reprocessable materials. The method of data collection was the interview, through a data collection instrument, which were stored and processed in the Microsoft Excel® program, by descriptive statistics. The cleaning of the materials was verified in 100% of the establishments, of these 75% by means of soap or detergent. All reported disinfecting and only one (25%) performed the sterilization of the materials. At sites (50%) where epilation tweezers are used, sterilization should be considered, a practice not yet performed. It is concluded that although all the establishments carry out until the disinfection stage, there is still the possibility of improvement of the processing stages through actions related to the inspection, training and updating of the professionals of the area. |
