| Abstract | Objective: to show some of the social representations related to the basic English learning on students of the Language Center at the University of Ibague. Methodology: qualitative study with ethnographic method, which allowed an approach to the selected context. Findings: after the data collection, analysis and interpretation process, the achieved findings met aspects such as the association of social representations with the learner’s attitude, the alteration of their self-teem, and the lack of commitment with some academic responsibilities. All of them as consequence of inadequate teaching methodologies previously experienced, the lack of appraisal, and the need of a humanized teacher and of recreational strategies used in the classroom. Conclusion: students in this educational context pursue their learning process because there is an acknowledgement on the benefits of learning English for their future. |
